Northlight Theatre, Skokie, IL March 7 - April 19,2014
"Chapatti" is a terrific play by my friend Christian O'Reilly, and again brings me together with John Mahoney under the direction of B.J. Jones. I am a lucky actor indeed.
At John's suggestion, B.J. gave "Chapatti" a staged reading back in November, 2012 which was very well received by the audience. Christian continued to make refinements before and during rehearsals. Its a work that says so much to me about life, and perseverance, and hope.
Betty is an Irish lady who's seen a lot of disappointment but remains positive about her life and prospects. Like me, she also loves her kitties.
John of course is a remarkable actor. In "Chapatti" he brings so many interesting details to Dan, a character who's also seen better days, and tends to be the opposite mirror image of Betty's bright optimism. So much fun. We last worked together in 2010, as husband-and-wife in "A Life", also here at Northlight Theatre.
The regular Northlight run was March 7 - April 13, and due to demand we extended to April 19. Come July, "Chapatti" transfers across the waves to the Galway Arts Festival where I enjoyed performing last summer in Northlight's "Stella and Lou" transfer. I'll have more about the Galway Festival's "Chapatti" in a future News post.
